- Android 5.0 was released in 2014, so odds are your phone or tablet is running a newer version of Android. You can check by opening the Settings app and going to About phone and looking for Android.
- GO Media Manager is an excluvie 'plugin' from GO Launcher EX. It allows you to access your images, videos, and music in an easy and direct way. You can arrange, hide, move, play, or delete whatever multimedia file you choose right from the main menu. The application comes with separate managers for images, music, and video to keep you organized.
Ever had trouble transferring data between two different manufacturers of phones? MobileGo for Android is a perfect tool which not only supports transferring data between different models of phones, but the most useful features of this program are completely free.
We came across this program when a friend wanted to know a way to transfer Nokia contacts to his new Android phone. We knew it could be done, but it was always a complicated process which involved knowing the database formats of each of the operating systems. We wanted an easier way and found Wondershare MobileGo for Android.
Not only can this program connect Symbian and Android phones, but is also a full mobile phone manager. Although the premium features cost a little bit, the freeware edition (unregistered) remain useful and give you full access to many of your phones functions.
In terms of freeware functionality, we think the synchronization functions are probably some of the best. You can manage your contact lists, photos, videos and music all from your Windows desktop PC. Delete them, share them or upload them: all can be accomplished easily. MobileGo also allows you to manage your SMS messaging from your desktop, so whether you want to mass-delete or simply send SMS from PC, you can do it under the SMS menu.
Under the 'More Tools' menu, you can access some commonly used features of this program and view additional details about the phone that is connected. MobileGo displays the manufacturer, mode, alias, baseband, serial number and IMEI data of the phone which you're currently working with. All of these can be useful for rooting or installing custom firmware.
In addition to aforementioned features available under 'More Tools', users of MobileGo for Android can also access backup and restore features which are extremely useful if upgrading to a custom ROM. The backup and restore feature works with contacts, text messages, calender, call logs, playlists and applications. Also available under more tools is a nifty feature to find duplicate files on your phone which can be deleted to save space.
We didn't get a chance to try out the 'Pro' version of MobileGo for Android, but from what we can tell, it offers some additional tools mainly the area of media conversion and integration with Microsoft Outlook and Apple iTunes.
Overall, a highly recommended application for Android users and especially for those who wish to migrate their data from Symbian to Android.
MobileGo for Android can manage contacts, transfer files between phone and PC, synchronize phone data, synchronize iPhone, synchronize iPad, backup phone data and send SMS messages.

Android includes Stagefright, a media playback engine at the native levelthat has built-in software-based codecs for popular media formats.
Stagefright audio and video playback features include integration withOpenMAX codecs, session management, time-synchronized rendering, transportcontrol, and DRM.
Stagefright also supports integration with custom hardware codecs provided byyou. To set a hardware path to encode and decode media, you must implement ahardware-based codec as an OpenMax IL (Integration Layer) component.
Note: Stagefright updates can occur through theAndroid monthly securityupdate process and as part of an Android OS release.
Architecture
Media applications interact with the Android native multimedia frameworkaccording to the following architecture.
Figure 1. Mediaarchitecture
- Application Framework
- At the application framework level is application code that utilizesandroid.mediaAPIs to interact with the multimedia hardware.
- Binder IPC
- The Binder IPC proxies facilitate communication over process boundaries. They are located in the
frameworks/av/media/libmedia
directory andbegin with the letter 'I'. - Native Multimedia Framework
- At the native level, Android provides a multimedia framework that utilizesthe Stagefright engine for audio and video recording and playback. Stagefrightcomes with a default list of supported software codecs and you can implementyour own hardware codec by using the OpenMax integration layer standard. Formore implementation details, see the MediaPlayer and Stagefright componentslocated in
frameworks/av/media
. - OpenMAX Integration Layer (IL)
- The OpenMAX IL provides a standardized way for Stagefright to recognize anduse custom hardware-based multimedia codecs called components. You must providean OpenMAX plugin in the form of a shared library named
libstagefrighthw.so
. This plugin links Stagefright with your customcodec components, which must be implemented according to the OpenMAX ILcomponent standard.
Implementing custom codecs
Stagefright comes with built-in software codecs for common media formats, butyou can also add your own custom hardware codecs as OpenMAX components. To dothis, you must create the OMX components and an OMX plugin that hooks togetheryour custom codecs with the Stagefright framework. For example components, seethe
hardware/ti/omap4xxx/domx/
; for an example plugin for theGalaxy Nexus, see hardware/ti/omap4xx/libstagefrighthw
.To add your own codecs:
- Create your components according to the OpenMAX IL component standard. Thecomponent interface is located in the
frameworks/native/include/media/OpenMAX/OMX_Component.h
file. Tolearn more about the OpenMAX IL specification, refer to theOpenMAX website. - Create a OpenMAX plugin that links your components with the Stagefrightservice. For the interfaces to create the plugin, see
frameworks/native/include/media/hardware/OMXPluginBase.h
andHardwareAPI.h
header files. - Build your plugin as a shared library with the name
libstagefrighthw.so
in your product Makefile. For example:In your device's Makefile, ensure you declare the module as a productpackage:
Exposing codecs to the framework
Media Go Android Phone
The Stagefright service parses the
system/etc/media_codecs.xml
and system/etc/media_profiles.xml
to expose the supported codecsand profiles on the device to app developers via theandroid.media.MediaCodecList
andandroid.media.CamcorderProfile
classes. You must create both filesin the device/<company>/<device>/
directoryand copy this over to the system image's system/etc
directory inyour device's Makefile. For example:For complete examples, see
device/samsung/tuna/media_codecs.xml
and device/samsung/tuna/media_profiles.xml

Note: As of Android 4.1, the
<Quirk>
element for media codecs is no longer supported.
